Moshav Tour

The "Give a Job" program is currently running two projects: the Moshav Tour and free livestock and egg distribution to needy families. Our new initiative, the breeding and distribution of livestock (chickens), is a unique idea to combat lack of food and poverty in Israel. The project is overseen by Rabbi David Feld, Chairman of the World Maccabee Institute.

The Maccabee Institute has donated a wonderful incubator that creates 120 chicks every 21 days and our goal is to enlarge the program to an incubator that takes 500 eggs creating 500 chickens every 21 days. For families living in rural areas they will receive material to build a chicken coop and if need be help constructing the coop and 10 - 15 adult female egg laying chickens. The family will then be getting free daily eggs to eat and the excess eggs can be sold as a means of extra income. Male chickens can be schected at 4 months old. The females will breed, increasing their numbers throughout the year. For needy families living in town we are planning to distribute free eggs and live chickens for schecting. The main advantage of this project is that livestock multiplies, which makes your initial donation a greater mitzvah than you ever could imagine. We oversee and follow-up on all of the families taking part in this project. 10% of their produce and any excess livestock will create more cottage industries for more poor families or will be given to families living in towns, making a chain of ongoing chesed.

The second initiative started on Moshav Mevo Modi'im by Judy Avraham Chai is the Moshav Tour. It is a popular choice for tourists and local tourism for individuals, families and groups. The Moshav is situated between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. A wonderful tour is offered of Moshav Mevo Modi'im (see below), a beautiful Moshav to visit. And while you tour, you are giving chesed by giving work to guides, cooks, artists, and musicians.

The tour begins with a bird garden where one sees parrots from all over the world and other birds and trees, plants, goats, sheep, and more. There is goat cheese making (seasonal) and spinning wool to yarn and making a nature batik card. Then there is a trek through the olive groves to a view point over Modi'im. The tour gives one a historical, biblical and botanical understanding and of course the area is closely related to the story of Chanuka. The tour continues with a tour of an ancient olive and wine press and then one meets the artists at work. A tasty lunch is served and then to the shul for a live concert of Shlomo Carlebach nigunim.

If you wish to come on a tour please contact Judy Avraham Chai at 054-428-3646 or 08-926-4680. This is just one project on Mevo Modi'im but we are also fundraising for an olive press, green house, goat milking machine, mini tractor and the purchasing of olive trees for planting in the area to make an olive grove.

The highest form of charity is to help a needy person be productive.
